Cheer registration for 2008 season is now closed.
2008 Bloomingdale Blast will be Sunday September 28th at Lake Park High School West Campus
WHO, WHAT and WHERE:
The BAC is a member of the Bill George Youth Football league (BGYFL). Therefore, our cheerleaders are first and foremost football cheerleaders, and will be performing at all pre, regular and postseason football games. Members are placed age and grade appropriately to a squad, and the squad is assigned a football team. The BGYFL is a travel league, so when your football team has an away game, you will be traveling to the opponents game field. The league creates our schedule (regular season is eight weeks long), and generally gives our football teams four home games and four away games. Our home field is located at Circle Park, Fairfield Avenue, Bloomingdale, so all home games will be at that location. The two pre-season games are generally the Bloomingdale Bowl (held at Springfield Park, Springfield Avenue, Bloomingdale) and the Lombard Bowl (held at Madison Meadows Park, Madison Avenue, Lombard). Post season game locations will be determined by a football teams record and the playoff schedule. Towns participating in the BGYFL include, but are not limited to: Bartlett, Buffalo Grove, Carol Stream, Downers Grove, Glendale Heights, Glen Ellyn, Hanover Park, Hinsdale, Lombard, South Elgin, Streamwood, West Chicago, and Wheaton. Parents are expected to provide transportation for their children to all BAC events they are scheduled to be at.
STATEMENT of PURPOSE:
GENERAL: To encourage youth athletic activities, promote sportsmanship and fitness. To maintain a sound: mental, physical and moral condition.
SPECIFIC: To provide an opportunity to cheer and dance in a safe manner, develop qualities of sportsmanship, teamwork, self-confidence, poise and enthusiasm.
REQUIREMENTS:
The Bears cheerleading program is designed for girls in grades 1st through 8th, regardless of skill level. Our program is directed toward providing a great experience and developing character. Emphasis is on learning new skills, improving skills and being part of a team. All participants must abide by the Rules and Regulations set forth by the BGYFL, BAC and Bloomingdale Park District. All rules and regulations have been established to ensure a “safe” environment for our members. Reviewing and understanding these rules is imperative. Being at practice and games on time and ready to perform is also important.
FEES:
The registration fee for participating in the BAC Cheer Program is $260.00 due at registration. The registration fee covers the cost of league fees, insurance, park district fees, coaches certification, competition fee(s), indoor practice facilities (October only), poms, replacement uniforms, end of year awards, etc. The girls will be issued: a uniform, hairbow, competition shoes and socks, and wind suits. At the end of the season, you are required to turn the uniform in, in good and clean condition as received. The wind suit, shoes and socks will be yours to keep.
COMMITMENT:
Is Cheerleading a sport? Yes, most definitely. Physical conditioning is mandatory to enable our members to cheer at a game and perform a half-time routine. Not only is cheerleading a sport, it is a “team” sport, which requires a great deal of dedication and commitment. When you sign up to participate, you are making a commitment to every member assigned to your squad that you can be relied upon to be there and give it your all. Routines and stunts are orchestrated for participation by everyone working together, and can only be performed when everyone participates together in unison. Missing practices and games is unfair and unsafe to your teammates.
CHEER / POM:
The BAC makes every effort to accommodate girls in their request to participate with a cheer squad (mounts, stunts, more acrobatic) or pom squad (more dance oriented), however, it depends upon enough girls signing up to create an age appropriate squad, and obtaining enough knowledgeable volunteer coaches to support the squads. Regardless of whether you are assigned to a cheer squad or a pom squad you will be performing sideline and half-time cheers for football games.
PRACTICE:
Cheer/Pom practice begins at the beginning of July . During July, all squads will practice for approx. one to 1-1/2 hours two or three days (depending upon coaches availability) Practices will then vary by squad and be scheduled upon the availability of our Coaches. Indoor practice begins the first week of September or when the weather begins to turn. It is imperative that proper attire be worn to practice. Blue Jeans or restrictive, tight fitting clothes, shirts or shorts that are too short and require constant adjustment, platform shoes or sandals are unsafe and distract and diminish the ability of the squad to focus.
SEASON SCHEDULE:
The girls will perform at all preseason (last two weeks of August), regular season beginning Labor Day weekend, and post-season football games (up to the second week in November). The only time a squad will not be present at a football game is if they are competing. In the past, the BAC has sponsored two competitions for each squad: Bloomingdale Blast (generally held in September); and BGYFL Competition (generally held in October). The Blast competition will be dependent upon the BAC obtaining enough parent/guardian volunteers to sponsor such an event.
UNIFORMS:
Uniform distribution will occur sometime the end of July -- when a squad has completed all it’s obligations of registration and is in compliance to participate in the BAC, BPD and BGYFL (i.e., birth certificates, Score 6/Character Counts, raffle stubs, etc.). The BAC will do its best to fit each participant to the best of their ability. However, should alterations be required, those alterations should be removed and the uniform returned to its original condition/size as when received.
VOLUNTEERS:
The BAC is a not-for-profit club that is operated and run solely by volunteers. All parents/guardians are automatically registered as parents’ auxiliary members as soon as your child is registered in our program. It takes a great deal of effort to provide a quality program the children of our community can be proud of. We are always in need of volunteers (e.g. Board Members, Head Coaches, Jr. Coaches, Team Managers, Committee Chair personnel, and general helpers). Please consider becoming as actively involved as you can. You will find great rewards from donating your time and talents to the youth of our communities
Coaches: Head Coaches for Cheer are adults (18 or older). Head Coaches must be NYSCA certified as they are responsible for the members placed on their squad. They perform all the general management of a squad ensuring all requirements are fulfilled for participation in the program (i.e., collect birth certificates, payment, assist with uniform hand out and collection, picture forms, banquet fees, provide communications to members assigned to their squad, and act as a liaison between cheer and football, etc.).
Jr. Coaches are generally High School students. They teach the girls sideline cheers and choreograph their routines for competition. They are the ones who actually work with the squad, however, under the supervision of the Head Coach.
Committee Personnel: Some committees we are in need of help with are, but are not limited to: Bear Wear, Concessions, Coaches Certification, Field Management, Pictures and Awards, Media Liaison, Banquets, Special Events (e.g., Chicago Rush Outing, Outback Day, Pep Rally, Bloomingdale Bowl, Candlelight Bowl, Bloomingdale Blast, BGYFL Competition, BGYFL Super Bowl), Sewing and Alterations. We will also be in need of Board Members for the 2007 season, as some of our members will be graduating out of the program. Please consider what you can do.
